Timesheets for drivers: obligation, form, retention

For drivers in passenger transport, working time must be recorded without gaps. The essentials in short.

As of 6 October 2026 · about 1 minute read · by Flipo

What it is about

Passenger transport is one of the sectors in which, under the German Minimum Wage Act, the start, end and duration of daily working time must be recorded, no later than seven days after the working day. The Working Time Act and the Federal Labour Court require recording anyway. Customs inspect the sector regularly.

What matters

  • Per day start, end, breaks and duration; per month the total, confirmed by the driver.
  • Working time is more than driving time: waiting for jobs, returning to the depot and refuelling count too.
  • Keep for at least two years.
